Charlottesville Kids' Chess Club

Joins us for two hours of fun, every Thursday, from 4:30 to 6:30. All levels from novice to expert are welcome.

The club is free, but sign up is required as we have limited space.

Club Teacher: John "Tex" Teixeira has been playing and coaching chess in the Charlottesville area for close to forty years. Mr. Tex is a Class A player and has played both here and abroad. He has taught in both public and private schools, along with the Virginia Discovery Museum.

Mr. Tex is a retired Albemarle County Police Captain and has had three students win four Virginia State Chess Championships in their respective categories. In addition, one of Mr. Tex's students came in 4th place in the 2022 National K-12 Grade Championships.
