Robotics with Vex IQ
Programming, Problem-Solving, and Engineering
Description:
Join us at Blue Ridge Boost for an exciting, hands-on journey into coding and computational thinking with the VEX IQ (2nd Generation) robotics platform! Using the structured curriculum from the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy, this class introduces students to the fundamentals of robotics programming, problem-solving, and real-world applications.
Designed for beginners and enthusiasts, the course features engaging, project-based activities that teach students to build, program, and control their robots using the VEXcode programming software. Students will learn how to:
- Set up and program the VEX IQ Brain to display custom outputs.
- Master basic robot maneuvers like moving, turning, and manipulating objects.
- Use digital and analog sensors to create responsive robots that can interact with their environment.
- Implement loops, decisions, and line-tracking to solve complex tasks.
- Develop advanced programming skills through a capstone subterranean challenge, where students will plan and iterate on solutions to open-ended problems.
The curriculum includes step-by-step lessons, animations, videos, and challenges to ensure an interactive and immersive learning experience.
Key Units:
- Programming the Brain
- Robot Movement
- Digital and Analog Sensors
- Loops and Decision-Making
- Capstone Challenge: Subterranean Exploration
Whether students are new to robotics or looking to expand their programming skills, this course is a perfect way to foster creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork!
