What is the Aerial Drone Competition?
- A cutting-edge program that prepares students for careers in drone technology
- Four exciting missions: Teamwork, Autonomous Flight, Piloting Skills, and Communications
- Compete in local, and regional events
No prior experience needed! We're looking for students who are:
- Curious about drones and aviation
- Interested in coding and programming
- Excited to learn piloting skills
- Great at teamwork and communication
- Ready to take on new challenges
Students are not required to participate in a Competition. However, the competition is a great way to apply the skills learned in class and to meet other students who share an interest in drones and coding.
Local qualifying events will be held from October to March. As of now, no events are currently scheduled for our region. We will notify when events are scheduled in our area.
Team Information
Team Size: 3 to 5 students per team
Roles: Teams should assign specific roles to members such as pilots, builders, programmers, and documenters to streamline the workflow and responsibilities.
Season Information
Season Duration: The Aerial Drone Competition season generally follows an academic year, starting in the fall and concluding in the spring.
Events: The season includes various events such as regional qualifiers, state championships, and national/international competitions.
Challenges: Each season presents new challenges and objectives that teams must accomplish using their drones. These challenges are designed to test skills in areas such as navigation, control, and problem-solving.
Documentation: Teams are required to maintain documentation of their design process, strategies, and learnings. This documentation is often part of the evaluation criteria during competitions.
Judging Criteria: Teams are judged based on criteria including drone performance, innovation, teamwork, and documentation quality.
Meetings Schedule
Getting Started with CoDrone EDU
- Introduction to drone basics
- Importance of understanding the CoDrone EDU
- Thorough knowledge of the drone and setup procedures
- Powering on, charging, and pairing the CoDrone EDU
- Effective use of the remote control
Checkpoint
Students will complete lessons 1 to 5 and practice basic piloting skills.
Advanced Flight
- Engineering Logbook Importance
- Trimming can correct unexpected drifting of your CoDrone EDU, and this lesson teaches you how to apply it using both the remote control and Blockly programming.
- Troubleshooting, Repair, and Maintenance
Checkpoint
Students will complete lessons 6 to 7 and practice basic piloting skills.
Students interested in competing will take the test to earn their the Certified CoDrone EDU pilot license.
